My Reading Manga Journey: 5 Years, 50 Volumes, And Counting

manga

Introduction

When I was a high school student, I was introduced to manga by a friend. It wasn’t until much later that I realized just how deeply seated manga had become in my life. Since then, I’ve read manga on and off for five years, spending anywhere from a few hours to several weeks reading one volume after another. In total, I’ve read 50 volumes of manga during this time. This journey has taught me a great deal about the genre and its fans. In this post, I’d like to share my thoughts on MyReadingManga journey so far and where it may be headed next.

My First Year of Reading Manga

In the span of twelve months, I read over one thousand manga volumes. This year has been a whirlwind of reading for me – I’ve read volumes at an alarming rate since January. Manga is a medium that I discovered in my freshman year of high school and quickly fell in love with.

Manga is an incredibly diverse medium, spanning from action-packed stories to heartwarming tales. Some manga are aimed at adults, while others are meant for a younger audience. Regardless of its target audience, manga always captures my attention and pulls me into the story.

This year was especially rewarding because it marked the completion of my first manga series – Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa. Haruhi was a difficult series to follow, but it was well worth the effort. The last volume came out last week and I am so excited to see how everything pans out in the end!

I hope you have enjoyed checking out MyReadingManga journey so far! In 2018, I plan on continuing to read as many volumes as possible and exploring new genres and series. Thank you for following along – this journey would not be possible without you!

The Next 4 Years of My Manga Journey

As I sit here reflecting on my manga reading journey, it feels like it’s been such a long time since I’ve done this. It’s hard to believe that it’s been just over four years since I first started reading manga.

To put this into perspective, let’s compare how many volumes I’ve read in total:

2014: 5

2015: 11

2016: 13

2017: 10 (currently on break)

That’s a total of 30 volumes read! Not bad for someone who started out relatively recently. And even though there have only been 4 full years of manga reading, the journey has definitely been filled with a lot of highs and lows. Here are some of the highlights of my manga reading journey thus far:

Highlight #1 – Reading My First Manga Volume For The First Time on MyReadingManga

I don’t think I can overestimate how special it was for me to finally read my first manga volume for the first time. It was a huge moment for me and it definitely set the tone for my overall Manga reading journey.

Highlight #2 – Discovering New Manga Series And Fall In Love With Them Quickly!

Along the way, I’ve discovered a lot of new manga series and fallen in love with them quickly. Some of those series have stayed with me throughout all four years of my manga journey while others have ended up being short-lived obsessions. Regardless, they’ve all been fun to explore and

The Past 2 Years of My Manga Journey

For the past two years, I’ve been reading manga. It started out as a way to kill time, but soon enough it became an obsession. There are so many different series with so many different characters that it’s hard to decide which one to read next. Thankfully, online manga reader Mangatopia has made it easy for me to keep track of my progress and pick up new series as they come out.

In total, I’ve read over 125 volumes of manga. That averages out to around 9-10 books per month, which is pretty good considering how much I typically procrastinate. Some series have taken longer than others to finish, but all in all this has been a really fun journey that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

I’d like to thank everyone who has followed along with my manga journey and supported me along the way on MyReadingManga. Feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have below and I will do my best to respond as soon as possible!

Conclusion

As I write this, I am sitting in my second-to-last class of my fifth and final semester of college. In five years, I have read 50 volumes of manga – more than any other single activity outside of childbirth. And even though it’s hard to believe now, when I started reading manga all those years ago, it wasn’t an obvious choice. It was a risk that paid off in ways that nobody could have predicted.
