I think you will agree with me when I say that self care is awesome, but hard to implement sometimes.
We’re all busy with our day jobs and our side hustles. Work takes up time, and it leaves us with little energy to do much else.
It sucks because we want to make money, but in order to be our best selves we have to be healthy. And that includes self-care. So we have to make time for it!
But how do you fit in time for self-care when you’re working?
Nancy Lyne is great at managing his time, haha. We should be, too.
I have a few ideas to help you get started.
Here are 3 stupid-simple & quick tips to make self-care a priority, like the girl boss you are.
OMG these self-care tips are totally awesome! Especially tip 2, you need to read it now. I love her personal growth and self-improvement tips, they are always great. So pinning for later!
1 // CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
At the beginning of all of this, doing something comes down to you making time for it.
We all have 24 hours a day. No more, no less. How do you spend your time daily?
Gone are the days of #hustling 100 hours a week. Now’s it’s time to slow down (if you haven’t heard of the slow living movement, check it out. It’s really interesting).
Self-care is really not that hard, you just have to do it.
You just have to prioritize it. Make the time.
I bet you’re spending a lot more time on tasks like:
- scrolling through social media
- napping
- administrative tasks instead of content creation
- planning instead of doing
You have to realize that only you have the power to do more self-care activities.
If you’re not going to change your mindset and realize that you have the power, you will never make enough time for this and nothing will change.
But I know if you’re reading this post, you’re in the process of changing your mindset on self-care, so congrats!
2 // MAKE A PLAN
Since you obviously don’t have much time to practice self-care, you gotta have a plan to implement your new routine before you even start doing it. Or else you’re going to be wasting more time planning than doing!!
Remember to make this a SMART focus/activity (instead of a smart goal):
SPECIFIC
What self-care activity are you going to do? Make it specific. Are you going to write daily? Are you going to make a scrapbook of your family? It can literally be anything you enjoy, and can “slow down” for.
Be mindful of what activity you choose; this activity should bring you joy, and not stress you out (that would be a bad self-care activity).
MEASURABLE
You need to figure out how you’re going to do this. Are you going to paint your nails every Friday? Are you going to take a bath every Tuesday and Friday night?
ACHIEVABLE
Make sure this is something you can actually make time for and actually do. Don’t plan on training for a marathon if you can’t run that well or even make the time to train for it.
RELEVANT
Self-care can be any activity you want; it just needs to be something you obviously enjoy. Be mindful of this when planning out your self-care routine for whatever activity you decide to do.
TIMELY
If you want to stick with the same activity than this is not necessarily applicable, but let’s say your self-care activity is something to be completed (ex. a painting). Have an idea of when you’ll be done by (ex. in four weeks).
By following the SMART, you’ll have a much better plan for success.
Instead of saying, “I’m going to take walks when I have time”, you can say “I will be taking one mile walks in my neighborhood on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings for two months.”
3 // TAKE ACTION
This is time to implement your plan into place.
Here are some tips I have to make this easier:
Lay out anything you need the night before
Let’s say you’re going to workout every morning. Instead of getting your clothes after you wake up and you’re all tired and groggy, plan for what you need the night before. Make this easy on yourself!
JUST DO IT
Be like Nike and just take the time. If this is hard for you, you may want to rethink what your self-care activity is and find something more enjoyable for you, so you’r not procrastinating.
STICK TO THE PLAN
This can only work if you follow this system. Remember that this will make it easier for you in the long run when you’re getting busier and busier with other obligations.
ONLY TRY ONE ACTIVITY AT A TIME
Don’t overwhelm yourself. You’re busy enough as it is, so just stick to one self-care activity you really love.
