Drapano Bridge

The Drapano Bridge, or De Bosset Bridge, is a 900-meters-long stone bridge connecting two small towns – Argostoli and Drapano. It was built in 1813, during the British occupation of Kefalonia. The bridge was erected with one purpose – to facilitate transport links with the capital of the island for the residents of Drapano.

The original structure was almost entirely made of wood, but the bridge was rebuilt in 1842. The construction of the new bridge was made of solid stone and thanks to this it has retained its beautiful appearance, which today appears to the eyes of city residents and numerous travellers.

Melissani Cave

This cave features a unique location, as surrounded by mysterious forests. Plus, a little to the west you will find a lake that is partially hidden under stone arches. After the earthquake, the cave’s dome collapsed, and now sunlight penetrates inside. The rays go through the underground lake, and travellers can admire the amazing blue water for hours. By the way, you can take a walk on the lake to explore it better.

Melissani Cave keeps many ancient legends. According to one of them, the god Pan and the nymphs used to live under stone arches. The most beautiful nymph Melissa fell in love with god and confessed her feelings to him, but he didn’t reciprocate her feelings. The poor nymph’s heart couldn’t withstand such a blow, and Melissa drowned in an underground lake. Since then, the cave has been named after her.

Mounda Beach

Mounda Beach is one of the most amazing travel destinations in Kefalonia. It gained its popularity thanks to the huge turtles nesting there. So, you can even find several dozen individuals. Also, travellers like fine golden sand, crystal-clear water and a variety of exotic fish that swim near the shore.

The beach offers a well-developed infrastructure with hotels, restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs. You can also use sun loungers and umbrellas if needed.

The convenient location of the beach will allow you to drive up to it by car and leave it in a guarded car park. This place is great for families due to its shallow coastal depth, warm water, and beautiful lush vegetation. At the same time, fans of active rest will be able to ride jet skis and catamarans there.

Agia Effimia

Agia Effimia is a small and cozy fishing village located on the east coast of Kefalonia. The famous Myrtos Beach is 4 miles away, while the main port of the island is within 6 miles. Perhaps this is one of the most beautiful places in Greece. Here you can take a day cruise on a yacht or hire a boat to sail to hard-to-reach beaches.

Agia Effimia features fewer winds than the west coast, so this place is more comfortable for a beach holiday. The village is full of fish restaurants, themed bars, and shops. Many of them work around the clock, with interruptions for only a few minutes. So you will find a great atmospheric place to eat at any time of the day.

Mount Ainos

Today it’s difficult to imagine a mountain range that hasn’t yet been affected by the tourist infrastructure. Fortunately, you will find one in Kefalonia. Mount Ainos is the highest point in the mountain range of Kefalonia Island in Greece. It’s an example of virgin nature, which also has the status of a national park.

You won’t find huge ski resorts and jumps there, but you will enjoy the amazing fir and pine forests untouched by civilization. The path to the top is short because you can leave your car within a 15-minute walk from the goal. Mount Ainos is a great place to breathe in the fresh mountain air and admire the beauty of the unique views.

Kipoureon Monastery

Founded in the 17th century, Kipoureon Monastery is located a few kilometers from Lixouri on the western tip of the island. This scenic spot just above a steep cliff offers incredible sea views. Among the relics kept in the monastery is the miraculous icon of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos, holy relics, as well as a carved wooden cross, and numerous Byzantine icons.

The location of this monastery is truly unique, as it stands at the very top of a rocky ledge at an altitude of about 90 meters above the sea.
